Camilo Ramirez - Irina Rozovsky

Fountain studios, New York

In the photography exhibition 'Details at a distance' the artists, by inviting serendipity, chance, and illusion into the making of their work, transcend mere description, create an escape for the mind, and embrace a larger experience through observation of the finest details.

On display will be images from Ramirez's current, ongoing project Head Room , a growing collection of large color photographs taken from an array of scenes from his everyday life, woven together into a strangely coherent meditation. With fleeting visions from his distant hometown, family and immediate surroundings (like a swollen garbage bag that glimmers with dew like a jewel on the sidewalk), Ramirez maps out a personal mental space, brooding and arresting.

Rozovsky's Before Infinity is a series of postcard sized self-portraits in which miniscule signs of non- descript cities (buildings, lamp posts, columns) are uprooted and foregrounded by a blurred face spilling in and out of the frame. At times the expression seems to ask for recognition and in other cases is entirely obscured or nearly missing, like a smudged fingerprint that marks the questionable presence of the maker. The play of forms is echoed in Rozovsky's 16 foot long panorama Sale Way Stroll, which wraps around a corner similarly to a city block, presenting a life-size view of a composite storefront facade, disorienting with its plethora of bargains. Pervasive in both artists' work is a shared urgency to see through and beyond what is before our eyes. By inviting serendipity, chance, and illusion into the making of their work, both Ramirez and Rozovsky transcend mere description, create an escape for the mind, and embrace a larger experience through observation of the finest details.
