comunicato stampa

Artangel is delighted to announce Locked Room Scenario, the most ambitious project to date by British artist Ryan Gander, on display in East London from 30 August to 23 October 2011.

Locked Room Scenario will take place in a warehouse in Hoxton. Inside a white cube exhibition space will be a diverse range of work from sculptures, paintings and photographs to performance and video. When visitors arrive, the building will be open but the exhibition will appear to be closed.

Offering only fragmentary glimpses of an enigmatic group show, inaccessible spaces, partially visible artworks and leftover or discarded pieces of information, Locked Room Scenario will invite the viewer to adopt a detective's mentality to piece together the available clues, scrutinise detail, and imagine what cannot be seen. An accumulation of evidence and encounters with objects, information and passers-by may precipitate an unnerving awareness of fact and fiction beginning to merge.

Locked Room Scenario is one of three major Artangel projects presented in London this autumn. The programme also includes the London premieres of two new commissions launched earlier this year at the Manchester International Festival.

1395 Days without Red is a cinematic project by Šejla Kamerić and Anri Sala in collaboration with Ari Benjamin Meyers. The new commission, comprising two separate works made from material developed and filmed together in Sarajevo, is showing at a specially customised space in Victoria from 27 September to 23 October 2011.

Audio Obscura, a new sound work by award-winning poet and novelist Lavinia Greenlaw conceived for the public spaces of St Pancras International, will be an aural version of the camera obscura, a framed and heightened reflection of the passing world. It takes place from 13 September to 23 October 2011.
