All smile. This exhibition marks out the gallery space by strong inventive detonations. The artist makes sculptures and installations coexist and even superimpose, he mixes words and images, he resizes the space and transcend the concept of total art.
The gallery Magda Danysz is pleased to present the works of Wang Keping in Paris.
After a totally new exhibition in Shanghai, the
legendary Chinese sculptor offers an equally singular selection in
the French capital. All smile, recounts a strong conceptual
anchorage by the wood exploration. This exhibition marks out the
gallery space by strong inventive detonations. This way, Wang Keping makes sculptures and installations coexist and even
superimpose, he mixes words and images, he resizes the space and transcend the concept of total art.
Real pioneer of contemporary Chinese art, Wang Keping was born
in 1949 at the same time as the advent of the People's Republic of
China. He evolves in the communist collectivism and takes
advantages of a relative relaxing of the Communist Party about
artistic creation to create the first group of nonconformist artists
of China. Thus, at the same time as Beijing Spring, in 1978 the
group the Stars was born. The group becomes very quickly well-
known thanks to an illegal exhibition in front of the Fine Arts Museum of Beijing, visited by more
than 100 000 people, and permits him to present his works in a legally way.
Even if Wang is now
universally recognized, he continues to be opposed to the realistic socialist ideas and tries
successively to use different arts such as the comedy and the painting and the writing. But it’s
definitively the hood that stimulates his artistic instinct forever linking to the sculpture. Thanks to
this material, he gets in the dimensions, the space, he goes further for All in smile covering all the
architectural development with the bricks through a game of forms that corresponds to many
significations. Each change of observer angles match with a change of interpretation and emotion.
The artist is known all over the world and his works travel, from Beijing to Tokyo, through Hong-
Kong and New York where the exhibition Retrospective at the Today Art Museum “Origin Point”
was dedicated to him in 2007. The fact that the artist reveals his artistic inspirations transmits to
the spectator a strong emotion about his creations. He confesses himself: “I go the way where
things express a presence”.
The whole work of Wang Keping includes a message of wisdom, introducing both a subtle
eroticism and an appeal to the individual resistance. Through this exhibition, the Magda Danysz Gallery presents a project, in a way, faithful to the creation of the artist but different from the design. In Paris, All in smile, brings back to a pleasant
satisfaction but suddenly change radically in a strong and intensive emotion.
