comunicato stampa

Once again, this September Madrid will sizzle with contemporary art. The launch of Apertura 2011 will bring about nearly fifty official openings and offer a wide range of activities in museums and cultural centres, with the aim of promoting artistic creation in Spain and throughout the world.

The second edition of this major event organised by ArteMadrid follows the lines of those held in other leading cities in the international art scene like Berlin and New York. For this long-awaited event, the galleries taking part select the best exponents of contemporary art, both Spanish and international, established and up-and-coming. This is the perfect gathering for those who share the same interests: professionals, collectors and the general public alike.

The joint grand opening will take place between 5 and 10 pm on 15 September, with the inauguration of the exhibitions chosen by the galleries to start this new season. Normal opening times will be extended and visitors will be offered a brunch between 11 am and 3 pm on 17 September. There will also be many other activities, including the viewing of private collections and museums (by prior invitation only) and the presentation of interesting new works such as Proyecto Juárez, by different artists, and the animated structure Tensión Orcasitas, by Juan Linares and Erika Artz, both of which can be seen at Matadero Madrid.

Civic Citations by Rita McBride (Benvensite CP&P); Latidos by Cecilia Paredes and Luis González Palma (Galería Blana Berlín); Memorias imaginadas by Mitsuo Miura (Galería Evelyn Botella); Todo lo sólido se desvanece en el aire by Sofia Jack (Eúcares); and the work of Mark Hagen (Marta Cervera Galería) and Nico Munuera (Max Estrella) are just a few of the offerings with which Madrid galleries hope to surprise the public from 15 September.
