Kazimir Malevich

Guggenheim Museum, Berlin

Kazimir Malevich: Suprematism is the first exhibition devoted exclusively to this decisive moment in the artist's career. It presents paintings, drawings, and objects from important public and private collections all over the world. Among these, several works will be shown which have never been seen in the West, such as some of the recently rediscovered masterpieces by Malevich.

Suprematism

Kazimir Malevich is considered one of the pioneering founders of non-objective art of the twentieth century. Between 1915 and 1932 he developed a form of abstract painting which is known as Suprematism-art of pure form, which was to be understandable to the general public, independent of the viewer's cultural or ethnic background.
Like his contemporaries Piet Mondrian and Vasily Kandinsky, Malevich also developed an artistic utopia which became the secular counterpart to religious painting-and, in his case, aimed to replace the omnipresent icon in Russia-by creating works which were intended to transport the viewer into a higher level of consciousness.
