comunicato stampa

John M Armleder’s work has its origins in Fluxus, and retains an interest in chance and performance. His paintings are often juxtaposed with objects such as furniture or hung on Wall Paintings of repeated motifs. He has made Pour Paintings since the early 1980s. From the top of a ladder cans of metallic paint are poured, allowing gravity to take its lead, often later adding a sprinkling of glitter.

Armleder’s solo exhibition is part of The Indiscipline of Painting, showing concurrently at Tate St Ives.
Selected by Daniel Sturgis, it is an international group exhibition of forty-nine artists from the 1960s to now. It considers how the history and legacy of abstract painting continues to inspire artists working today. The Indiscipline of Painting is a collaborative project between Tate St Ives and Mead Gallery, Warwick Arts Centre. It will be at Mead Gallery 14 January - 10 March 2012, with a single work by Armleder.
See www.tate.org.uk/stives for events relating to The Indiscipline of Painting.
