Bertrand Lavier is taking over the Museum of Modern Art's central room for an installation of which only he knows the content at the moment. Munumenta? runs until the end of August 2012, it highlights the museum permanent collection.
BERTRAND LAVIER
(14 October 2011 – 5 February 2012)
An emblematic figure of the French contemporary art scene, Bertrand Lavier (born in 1949) is taking over the Museum of Modern Art’s central room for an installation of which only he knows the content at the moment. He refers to an entirely new creation, questioning the status of the work of art by diverting objects and taking an alternative view of them, as in all of his work. “My luxury is making people believe that I don’t do anything.” (Bertrand Lavier)
MONUMENTAL?
Highlighting the contemporary art collection: several rooms to house a new exhibition (until the end of August 2012)
Since the Perspectives contemporaines exhibition in September 2010, the permanent collection of contemporary art, which is the real core of the Museum of Modern Art, has been presented regularly in a large space to allow the visitor to see the works of the artists shown in the temporary exhibitions within the perspective of artistic creation since the 1960s. This collection of contemporary art, which has been regularly expanded since the museum opened in 1987, is now a reference collection. After the Catalogue and the Tribute to Vicky Rémy presented this summer, a new selection of works from the permanent collection will be linked to a theme in a walkthrough exhibition to which design items will be added in February 2012. Numerous educational activities will be organised in relation to this presentation, particularly for schoolchildren.
