Charlotte Moth presents an installation in which she transforms the pages of a book conceived by her into a 'sculpture' that underscores certain physical specificities of the Institute. The duo of artists !Von Calhau! turned one of the rooms in this former school into a set to shoot several scenes of the film presented here. During the exhibition period they will present concerts parallel to the screening of the film that function as a veritable soundtrack.

For three months, the school for the hearing impaired, the former Araújo Porto Institute, where this exhibition is shown, was the venue for artists to produce the works now featured. Here, the work and exhibition spaces, which are almost always different – artists usually produce at the studio and show in galleries and museums –coincide deliberately.
Charlotte Moth explores the physical characteristics of the former school, associating them with architectural details found in several buildings around Porto, as well as in architectural forms that were captured elsewhere, collected in the course of several travels, and constantly augment the extensive archive of (analogue) photographic images that the artist calls Travelogue. Aside from an installation in which she transforms the pages of a book conceived by her into a ‘sculpture’ that underscores certain physical specificities of the Araújo Porto Institute, the artist produced a film that explores the relationship between elementary forms, almost all encountered during her residency in Porto, and different light sources that define their outlines, thus allowing them to be perceived.
The Portuguese duo of artists !Von Calhau! turned one of the rooms in this former school into a set to shoot several scenes of the film presented here. The site had already functioned as a studio to produce several of the props that were used during shooting and are now featured autonomously as an installation. Aside from participating in exhibitions of so-called visual arts, these artists also work with music and performance. During the exhibition period they will present concerts parallel to the screening of the film that function as a veritable soundtrack. These events will take place at the Auditorium contiguous to the school, the same venue where, aside from !Von Calhau!, also Charlotte Moth and her guest artists (Annette Amberg, Ana Jotta and Francesco Pedraglio) seek to explore the relevance of language, especially of the spoken word, in contemporary art through a series of performative events.
