The three-part exhibition series continues with its second presentation. The project is a planning technique used among others in politics and economy. It is based on the analysis of possible future developments and is used to contemplate future strategies. Here, this has been transferred to the field of art. The same ten curators have been invited to make proposals on how to think about Europe.

The three-part exhibition series Scenarios about Europe continues with its second scenario presentation. The same ten curators have been invited to make proposals on how to think about Europe from the perspective of the arts and how to implement these projects in various cities between May 2012 and March 2013. Again, each of the curators will get one zone in the building of the GfZK where it is left entirely up to them whether they decide to feature a project by one or by several artists, whether they choose not to show any artworks, or whether they opt for other, rather time-based or discursive formats.
Scenario development is a planning technique used among others in politics and economy. It is based on the analysis of possible future developments and is used to contemplate future strategies. Here, this has been transferred to the field of art.

30 scenarios will be created in a collaboration between the Museum of Contemporary Art Leipzig, the Goethe Institut Munich and the regional Goethe Institute in Central and East Europe, Southeast Europe, North West and South West Europe and East Europe/Central Asia, in Brussels, Istanbul, Warsaw, London, Minsk, Vilnius, Oslo and Madrid: How could an art exhibition with Europe as its theme be realised in nine cities, within and outside of the European Union? In the year 2012, concrete projects and exhibitions entitled “Europe” will be realised in Brussels, Istanbul, London, Lodz, Minsk, Novi Sad, Oslo and San Sebastián and in Taipei, Beijing and Shanghai.
The locations were chosen as they challenge on various levels political, economic, social and cultural conceptions of Europe. China and Taiwan have a special role in the project: The relationship between China and “Europe” may be seen as exceptionally exposed compared to other relationships between “European” and “non-European” countries. Here, public reporting and political, economical and cultural activities are dominant today.
