comunicato stampa

Coinciding with the release of his anthology of Edvard Munch’s unedited writings, published by the Presses du réel, Jerome Poggi is collaborating with Emilia Stocchi of Primo Piano to present an important exhibition on the Norwegian contemporary art scene, which will take place in their respective galleries in the 10th arrondissement in Paris. Norsk features six artists whose works confront three household names in Norwegian art.

In dialogue with a quasi-abstract pastel of Edvard Munch (1863-1944), Per Maning (born 1943) will show a series of recent photographs in the Studio Room of the Jérôme Poggi gallery. A K Dolven (born 1953) will present for the first time in France a series of paintings on aluminium that will occupy the conservatory space, responding to two astonishingly contemporary paintings by Anna-Eva Bergman (1907-1987). The main room of the gallery will feature architectural photographs by Knut Åsdam (born 1968) and Per Barclay (born 1955) as well as a conceptual project by Jesper Alvaer / Eline Mugaas (born 1974 and 1969, respectively).

Just a few meters from the gallery, Primo Piano will display a rare painting by Peder Balke (1804-1887), known as the Norwegian J.M.W. Turner, opposite a sound/video installation by A K Dolven.

The exhibition is supported by the Royal Embassy of Norway and the Hartung-Bergman Foundation (Antibes). Many thanks to Gunnar Kvaran (Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo), Luc Bellier, Alain Julien-Laferrière, Olivier Etcheverry (rue Visconti, Paris), and Loic Labouche (Domino International, Paris).
