The Young Artists 2011 Exhibition celebrates a year of Young Artists, a free Saturday morning art program focused on helping high school students with a strong interest in art to develop their art portfolios and learn more about opportunities in the arts. Students who have completed a semester of Young Artists in 2011 are invited to participate in this exhibition, which they also curate and hang in the Community Room at the Jones Center.
Young Artists is a studio-based outreach program for high school students with strong visual arts interest and potential from underserved areas of Austin. Young Artists provides teens the opportunity to delve deeply into art making and begin working and thinking like professional artists. Each teen is guided in the process of developing a portfolio, and every semester includes field trips to artists’ studios, galleries and museums, as well as a higher education art department.
Annually, the Young Artists’ artwork is presented in a public exhibition, completing the full art-making process from concept and exploration through finished work and exhibition.
