Stockholm Independent Art Fair. Hundreds of artists, 79 artist-run galleries and similar artists' initiatives from 25 countries show the latest trends in contemporary art. Performance art, photography, painting, video, Seminar Programme Talks, Network Meetings and much more.
The goal of SUPERMARKET, the international artist-run art fair, is to provide a showcase for artists' initiatives from all over the world and to create opportunities for new networks in the Swedish as well as the international art scene.
Hundreds of artists from over 25 countries show the latest trends in
contemporary art. Performance art, photography, painting, video and more.
Beautiful, provocative, educational, humorous - it is the interaction between the
visitor and the art/artist that is SUPERMARKET'S founding idea and strength.
SUPERMARKET has grown from being an art happening in 2006 to be an
international art fair - unique because it is run by artists. Project managers are
the artists Meggi Sandell, Pontus Raud and Andreas Ribbung. This year it again
occupies Kulturhuset for a couple of rowdy days in mid-February, in the
apocalyptic year 2012.
“I think it's fun to invite back SUPERMARKET to Kulturhuset, for the third year in
a row” says Eric Sjöström, Director of Kulturhuset. “It feels like an established
and indispensable spring art event. The fair has an exciting form, with
international meetings and events, that fits Kulturhuset perfectly.”
This year's artist-run galleries will come from Albania, Australia, Bosnia, Cyprus,
Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Italy, Japan, Canada, China, Latvia, the
Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Serbia, Singapore, Spain, UK, South
Africa, Czech Republic, Germany, USA and Austria. And Sweden of course!
Why an art fair for artist-run galleries?
It is becoming increasingly common for artists to take matters into their own hands and set up galleries and project spaces. Supermarket is an arena for such artist-run initiatives. The aim is for Supermarket to be a place where a wider public can become a part of what is happening on the artist run scene. Supermarket wants to offer the visitor unexpected meetings and experiences rather than focusing on sales.
