Maja Bajevic

Daad Galerie, Berlin

To Be Continued's a project in progress originally conceived for the Cristal Palace in the Parque del Retiro in Madrid. In a new form, as a performance and an installation, it will now be presented at the daadgalerie.

comunicato stampa

The project revolves around Maja Bajević’s carefully researched archive of political and economical slogans of the past 100 years. The artist so far studied ca. 150 slogans as to their origin, their impact as mass media and as symptoms of particular phases of recent history. The project consists of the presentation of the slogan archive as well as the re-activation and staging of the historical and contemporary slogans using different approaches: by way of an unusual steam machine, a sound piece and a 5-day long performance involving several performers (7.-11.2.2012). Like in her earlier performance work, Bajević associates performance with work and employment on the one hand, and language on the other hand. In “To Be Continued” the artist stages recent history as an entity that’s in flux and affected by continuity and repetition as well as antithesis and contradiction.

Maja Bajević (b. 1967 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina) lives and works in Sarajevo, Paris und Berlin. Bajevic has taken part in many international exhibitions. Her recent solo shows include: „Continuara“, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid (2011); „Import Export“, Kunsthaus Graz (2009); „Stories“, Fondazioine Befilacqua La Masa, Venedig (2008). Her recent group shows include: „re.act.feminism #2 – a performing archive“, Centro Cultural Montehermoso, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spanien (2011), (Akademie der Künste, Berlin in 2013); „Gender Check“, Zacheta National Gallery of Art, Warschau (2010); „Elles“, Centre Pompidou, Paris (2009). In 2006 Maja Bajević was a guest of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program.
