Photo's from the Rijksmuseum Collection. His work has always been consistent and it has developed harmoniously in time, from his journalistic years until his fine art practises. The show will consist of a selection of approximately 30 works.
Kahmann Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition of Willem Diepraam.
Last December, Willem Diepraam donated approximately 800 of his own photographs
to the photography collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The selection contains
the most important part of his production, created between 1960 and 2010.
The fact that Diepraam’s photo’s are now amongst the works of so many great artists is
an honour and recognition for this photographer, who has created a beautiful oeuvre.
Partly because of his early pictures for magazines such as Vrij Nederland, Diepraam has
had a big influence on Dutch photojournalism. His work has always been consistent and
it has developed harmoniously in time, from his journalistic years until his fine art
practises. His strength is his ability to capture the core of great stories. Open, but with a
subtle commentary and in wonderful prints that show a superior craftsmanship.
Only after the reopening of the Rijksmuseum, mid-2012, Diepraam’s work will be shown
to the public in a great retrospective. With this exhibition, Kahmann Gallery already
gives you the chance to view and also buy the work. The show will consist of a selection
of approximately 30 works. In addition, there will be a large number of photos present in
a portfolio.
Willem Diepraam has published several books, among which Frimangron, the Dutch
Caribbean, Sahel, Lima en Landschap aan Zee. He is currently working on a book about
his colour works and nudes.
