Is there a possibility of creating a piece that becomes an experience deep enough that it transforms our neuronal conditioning and presents reality anew?

Félix Lazo’s field of interest relates to the problems of perception and cognition, how we connect to what our senses receive and how we make sense and meaning out of this information.

m:n:m::l is an interactive, visual and audible installation that consists of two visual systems and one audible system. Each of the visual systems is made up of two parts: a physical or material part of origami boxes made of synthetic paper placed in a grid on the wall. The digital part is projected on the walls so that it interacts with the boxes. Interactive programs specifically created for the installation run the two visual systems. Placed on two walls, the interaction between color, form and origami gives each of them a distinctive character. These abstract systems based on simple geometric forms are modified by the interaction between sound movements in the environment.

Bio:
Félix Lazo was born in Chile in 1957. Lazo studied Biology at the University of Chile while also studying Music and taking some courses in Art History with a special interest in Latin American Art at the Catholic University of Chile. In 1981 he received his Bachelor's Degree in Music from the Catholic University and the following year he enrolled in some courses in Art Studies at the School of Fine Arts.

In 1985 Lazo was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, which enabled him to earn a Master of Arts in Music Education and also a Master of Education at Teacher’s College of Columbia University. From 2002 to 2003 Lazo studied Computer Music Composition at the Center of Musical Composition (CCMIX) in Paris at the studio of the famous French composer and music theorist Iannis Xenakis (1922 - 2001).

Triumphof the XX

Our origins, our identity, and the ramifications of genetic discoveries are the themes that drive the imagery of Chris Twomey’s work.

Triumph of the XX evokes the passion of the XX chromosome (female) in its ability to heal a flaw or mutation in the DNA by recombining and backing up since there are two X’s. A red haired woman is the metaphor for this concept, as she recombines the genes of the world with various men of different ethnic backgrounds, healing division. Aluminum foil, a simple substrate found in the kitchen and commonly used by women for domestic labor, is elevated, along with this concept, to an articulation of the divine.
The photographs/DVD for this series were shot in the studio, manipulated, retouched, and printed by the artist.

About Chris Twomey:
Award winning artist, as well as writer, and curator, Chris Twomey has had solo exhibitions in NYC and innumerable group exhibitions worldwide. Her next notable solo shows are scheduled for February 2012, “TRIUMPH of the XX” at the AC Institute in NYC, and a new series entitled ‘STOLEN GOODS” premiering at HP Garcia Gallery in NYC, May 2012. Graduating from Pratt Institute with an MFA, Twomey has received various awards; CAPS grant, Ford Grant, Experimental TV award, an American Film Institute Directing Internship, among others. She is also co-founder & curator for Broadthinking.org

In October 2011, solo survey exhibition “Chris Twomey - Time, Media, and Significance” exhibited in the Pascal Gallery at Ramapo College in NJ and was reviewed inwww.arterynyc.com. 2010 solo exhibitions included “CHRIS TWOMEY & Core Constellation at Westbeth Gallery, and “ASTRAL FLUFF: Carnal Bodies in Celestial Orbit” at CREON Gallery, NYC. Recent 2011 group exhibitions include PINK GALLERY and PINK art fair in Seoul, South Korea, Pool Art Fair, Miami, Florida, and Exit Art, NYC “Fracking” (Twomey’s work mentioned in Art News review).

In early 2012, Twomey published CHRIS TWOMEY PARALLAX: Time, Media, and Significance, a personal memoir running parallel to the survey of Twomey’s career over the last 30 years with approximately 130 pages of art images and critical essays by Eleanor Heartney, text by David Freund, Steve Cannon, Norm Hinsey and Chris Twomey.

Jan Hakon Erichsen
Seek and Destroy

I work within a variety of media focusing on topics like fear, anger and frustration. I have spent several years perfecting a D.I.Y aesthetic with found objects being the main source of work material.

In Seek and Destroy a leather armchair is shot with a bow and arrow, hung from the ceiling and then slaughtered like a wild animal. We can only see the hunter’s hands and feet, while he executes his actions with disturbing, cold determination. This is one of several works where I strive to force to viewer into feeling remorse for inanimate objects. Through slaughtering a chair I seek to question and alter the way we look at the objects that surround us and the way we live our lives in the modern world.

About Jan Hakon Erichsen:
Jan Hakon Erichsen is a young Norwegian artist who works with video, installation and photo. He has exhibited widely in Norwegian and international galleries and partaken in numerous international video festivals after he finished his education at the National Academy of Arts in Oslo. In 2008 he was selected as one of thirty Norwegian artists to exhibit at Astrup Fearnley museum of Modern Art in Oslo in an exhibition showcasing the best of the young Norwegian art scene. He has since received several grants and prizes for his art work.
