I Can't Make You Love Me Breda Beban
I Can't Make You Love Me centres on a two-screen projection work by the artist Breda Beban. It delves into her personal history, focusing on three key relationships - with her mother, an ex-lover and a former friend. Each of these people has left a mark on Beban to the extent that to her mind, the love she has felt for them has never been fully reciprocated. The piece sets out to uncover some of the reasons for this, partly through the act of confronting the individuals directly, but also through a wider analytic process in which the artist comes to terms with the contradictory feelings that these events have inspired.
