The exhibition consists of 66 works from the Collection executed by 33 artists of different nationalities, most of whom are linked by their use of painting as an artistic expression. Based in Miami, the Rubell Family Collection brings together some of the most select works in the history of art from the 1960s to the present day and is expanded every year through continuing acquisitions.
Fundación Banco Santander is pleased to present the exhibition Paintings from the Rubell Family Collection.
Our cultural project for the Sala de Arte involves alternating the permanent exhibition of the Colección Santander with the display of internationally renowned private collections of contemporary art, such as this one.
After exhibiting a selection from the Daros Latinamerica Collection in 2010 and showing the highlights of the Collezione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in 2011, in 2012 we bring our visitors one of the most important private collections in the world, the Rubell Family Collection, initiated in the 1960s by Don and Mera Rubell. The couple's children Jennifer and Jason, together with the latter's wife Michelle, are carrying on the tradition as standard bearers of the family's art collecting with an eye on the future.
In 1994 the Rubells set up the Contemporary Arts Foundation, whose purpose is to show and disseminate the Rubell Family Collection in its deepest sense. Like Fundación Banco Santander, this institution is notable for its cultural and humanistic focus and furthermore contributes to the conservation and knowledge of the Rubell Family Collection by organising art exhibitions and supporting educational programmes aimed at making the collection more widely known.
Based in Miami, the Rubell Family Collection brings together some of the most select works in the history of art from the 1960s to the present day and is expanded every year through continuing acquisitions that make this family a key name in the contemporary art world.
The exhibition at the Sala de Arte Santander consists of sixty-six works from the Collection executed by thirty-three artists of different nationalities, most of whom are linked by their use of painting as an artistic expression. All these works, with related texts and videos, are available through on the special website.
