This is for the first time in Poland that such a large presentation of video-documentation of activities and performances of feminist, gender and queer bias will be shown to the public.
re.act.feminism #2, performative archive is a mobile project which is going to be shown in six European countries in the years 2011 - 2013. The first unveiling of the project occurred on 7 October 2011 at the Centro Cultural Montehermoso in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque Country in Spain.
The bottom line of the project is a constant development, mobility and the perpetual enrichment of the stocks of the archive, composed of critical works from the 1960s, 70s., the beginning of the 1980s and contemporary pieces. The selected works by c. 120 artists concentrate first on feminist and queer issues. A research made within the re.act.feminism #2 - performative archive framework have concentrated on European art from the Mediterranean Area, along with the Middle East and the United States, and selected countries of Latin America.
One of the main goals of the project is to create the basis which will be composed of the series of video-documentation of performances. Performance is an exceptional discipline of art because of its ephemeral character; therefore the prepared and constantly developed video-documentation grants it durability and makes it accessible in its number and variety to a wider public. Additionally, the public can view the works of many generations of artist so the trans-cultural dialogue will be thus continued.
The Archive contains the video-documentation of many performances, photographs, interviews with artists, texts and musical notes.
An exhibition, lectures and projections will accompany the re.act.feminism #2 - performative archive event at The Wyspa Institute of Art. The archive is accompanied by an exhibition with female artists of different generations from Poland curated by Aneta Szyłak and Aleksandra Grzonkowska presenting:
Angelika Fojtuch, Izabela Gustowska, Paulina Ołowska & Lucy McKenzie, Ewa Partum, Anna Szwajgier and Zorka Wollny, as well as Teresa Tyszkiewicz.
