High quality contemporary art in inviting surroundings ...

From 4 to 8 April 2003, the ARTBRUSSELS fair will welcome over 25,000 contemporary art lovers, connoisseurs and professionals. This 21st edition of the fair will once again confirm the international status of the event. A total of 145 galleries from all four corners of the world will bring life to Halls 3 and 4 at Brussels Expo, while the aim of the fair itself remains unchanged - to combine quality, intimacy and openness to a wider public.

ARTBRUSSELS was first created in 1968 and is now a major international forum for contemporary art. The event has retained only the quintessential features of the original small contemporary art fair - its intimacy, its meticulous selection and its quality. In 2003, the organisers will demonstrate that they keep to the rules and continue to meet all these requirements with outstanding success.

Especially high participation level

Some 145 galleries will be present at ARTBRUSSELS this year.
They will have been very carefully selected from among to 250 applications! The selection committee, which has been an international body since last year and on which Xavier Hufkens (B) has been replaced by Rodolphe Janssen (B), has demonstrated its openness and its scope.
As a result, 72 % of the galleries represented will be foreign, compared with 28% from Belgium. Many of the participants will be from neighbouring Germany (34 exhibitors), with galleries such as Conrads, Fricke, Holtmann, Johnen & Schöttle, Schmela and Zanda.
The 20 French galleries, including Nathalie Obadia, Pietro Sparta, Daniel Templon and Vallois, will also prove a major attraction in 2003. However, it is the Swiss (Guy Bärtschi, Hauser&Wirth and Rosa Turetsky), the English (Lisson, Essor Gallery, Danielle Arnaud and James Colman) and the Americans (Kagan Martos Gallery and Patrick Painter) who are expected to arouse the greatest curiosity.
ARTBRUSSELS 2003 will present a skilful blend of leading names and young market players. It is worth noting that these young exhibitors will again be grouped together in the 'Young Galleries' area, which is made up of areas covering 25m2.

Once again this year, 'one-man-shows' will have pride of place. Galleries will again be able to promote an artist, whether established or a newcomer, whose work they will present as a 'one-man-show'. These shows will be set up in an exclusive area attached to their stand. In this way, ARTBRUSSELS aims to present the very latest trends in contemporary art and to foster innovation.

'Pampered' visitors and VIP programme

ARTBRUSSELS has built up its reputation (in particular) on the quality of its visitors. Professionals from the sector, curators and collectors visit the fair in large numbers, rubbing shoulders with many informed art lovers.
This is why the organisers are again offering a VIP programme for a selection of foreign collectors.
In addition to a special welcome (shuttle service, night in a hotel and VIP card), these privileged guests will also enjoy a wide-ranging cultural programme, including visits to no fewer than three contemporary art museums.

It is also worth noting that, with a view to introduce the wider public to contemporary art, ARTBRUSSELS will be offering two guided tours a day. A Ladies' Day is to be organised on the Friday, when ladies will be able to gain admission to the fair free of charge.

With its 21st fair, ARTBRUSSELS will consolidate its status as a major international forum for contemporary art. Retaining its quality, its intimacy and its openness to the world from year to year, in 2003 the Belgian fair may once again be sure of welcoming leading galleries and an increasingly numerous and well-informed public. Coming with the first days of spring ...
