Eva Lindstrom's Monkey and I. The book tells a simple but clever story around breakups, anxiety and reunion. The prize highlights the picture book as an artistic medium. Contemporary: exhibitions from the Academy of Fine Arts, Institute of Design and School of Architecture. A manifestation for Bildmuseets new building.
Eva Lindström’s Apan och jag received the honorable mention as best Swedish picture book of the year 2011 and is now presented in an exhibition at Bildmuseet.
In Apan och jag [Monkey and I], Eva Lindström tells a simple but clever story that contains both humour and strong emotions around breakups, anxiety and reunion. The text is written in tranquil rhyme, and the use of colour alternate between the pallor of everyday craziness and the hotter colouring of the rising emotions when jealous fantasies take shape. Eva Lindström develops her narrative in interaction with the reader, who always is kept aware of the real course of events by clues in the pictures.
The newly established prize Snöbollen – Swedish Picture Book of the Year is the only prize in Sweden that highlights the picture book as an artistic medium. It was presented for the first time in March 2012, during Littfest – Umeå International Literature Festival.
The Snöbollen prize is awarded by Krumelur – The Association for Young Words in Norrland, in collaboration with Umeå European Capital of Culture 2014, Astrid Lindgren's Foundation Solkatten, The culture association Pilgatan, regional libraries in Västerbotten and Västernorrland, Littfest – Umeå International Literature Festival, and Bildmuseet.

Art / Design / Architecture
Exhibitions from the Academy of Fine Arts, Institute of Design and School of Architecture, Umeå University.
The graduation exhibitions from the Academy of Fine Arts have been exhibited in Bildmuseet each spring for many years, but this year we also present student projects from the School of Architecture and the Institute of Design. As a manifestation of Bildmuseets new place and context, and with hopes for exciting future collaborations, we have invited the three schools to fill one floor each as we inaugurate the new building.
Twenty Twelve (As We Know It) is the title of Umeå Academy of Fine Arts’ graduation exhibition 2012. We will meet a diversity of perspectives and languages as the fresh graduates present themselves. Curators of the exhibition are Aileen Burns and Johan Lundh.
In the exhibition Work in Progress, Umeå School of Architecture gives an insight into how structure, materials, light, motion and activity are used in the creation of architectural space.
Umeå Institute of Design's exhibition What if ... is about
collaboration, innovation, user-centered design, which is what
their education focuses on.
