The artist Koo Jeong A (born 1967 in Seoul) works in the only inadequately describable field of ephemeral site-specific installations or seemingly enchanted everyday minimalist aesthetics. Working in such diverse distinctive media as drawings, photographs and often spatial interventions, the employed materials and objects are usually things that have only been negligibly altered: Stagings taken from everyday life. The common place is arranged in the space in such an extraordinary precise manner that new perspectives on the mundane objects inevitably result. Figures and spatial structures thus emerge from the assembled individual parts, the objets trouvés, which feature a pictorial language of its own – a philosophy of things per se.
Koo Jeong A has created a new site-specific installation for the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, the secret of which the artist is safeguarding even during the process of preparing the exhibition, so that all the participants will surely be curious to discover what will result from the meticulous interplay of objects and the space, in the final analysis with the subject. As is the case in the artist publication that accompanies the exhibition, visibility likewise first emerges here through the individual search for existence and time.
