OSNABRUECK
23. - 27. APRIL 2003
The European Media Art Festival, an international forum for media art,
will present a programme in the area of tension between visions,
stories and crossovers. For five days renowned artists, young talents
and specialists from the fields of culture, academia and economics
meet with a wide public audience in Osnabrück to discover and
expe-rience new artistic ideas and projects. 'Larger than life' is the
motto of the festival encompassing discussions and artistic
reflections on crossovers in the (bio-) sciences and on aesthetic
aspects and new technological developments in media art. We invite
media artists to submit their experimental films and videos,
installations or non-linear work on CD-ROM, DVD or in the Internet by
8th January 2003 to contribute to the programme of the festival.
// CINEMA
The current international film and video programme presents
experimental short and feature films, music videos, animations and
new forms of narration. An extensive retrospective will introduce
the work of the influential Canadian film artist Michael Snow,
whose films 'Wavelength' or 'La Region Centrale' decisively
influenced the genre of structural film. During the festival the
Prize of the German Film Critics for the best experimental film
and video and the Werkleitz Award in co-operation with the
Werkleitz Gesellschaft e.V. will be awarded.
// PERFORMANCE
Multimedia stage shows, VeeJaying, as well as other live acts
that have be-come part of media art since Fluxus and Expanded
Cinema. The EMAF reveals current developments and international
examples - and not only during the long media night.
// CONGRESS
The continuing development of bio sciences will completely
reform our current way of life and society. This radical
change is presently being intensively reflected upon by
artists and in the art sciences. In the crossover of various
different genres, avant-gardists, media and net artists do
away with the conventional divide between art, science and
technology, creating new artistic forms of expression.
During the congress, the festival presents the various different
positions and offers a critical discussion on this subject.
// EXHIBITION
The Kunsthalle Dominikanerkirche - is from 23rd of April to
18th of May the location of the exhibition with video and
computer installations. It is also the forum for the Electronic
Lounge, in which non-linear works on CD-ROM, DVD and net projects
will be presented. Furthermore, interactive installations at
public locations will turn the city into an open, medial space.
// INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FORUM
A special programme is offered by the Student Forum which,
in co-operation with European Media Colleges, presents training
concepts, as well as numerous student projects.
