Faces of Africa: a photoseries by the Austrian-born artist
Faces of Africa: a photoseries by the Austrian-born artist Mario Marino. For this series of portraits, the artist travelled to the south of Ethiopia, where he captured various populations on film in their original habitat. The photos question the position of authentic cultures in the increasingly globalized Africa, without reverting to cliches of the western tourist industry. In 2011 'Faces of Africa' was nominated for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portait Prize and published in a book by Blurb publishers. With this series Mario Marino made his debut as an autonomous artist.
