Maryam Jafri is an internationally renowned artist. This year she will participate at the prestigeous, european biennial of contemporary art, Manifesta, opening June 2nd in Genk, Belgium. The Museum of Contemporary Art is happy to present her first solo exhibition in Denmark with new works from 2007 to 2012.

Maryam Jafri works in video, performance, and photography. Informed by a research based, interdisciplinary process, her artworks are often marked by a visual language poised between film and theater and a series of narrative experiments oscillating between script and document, fragment and whole. They explore and challenge concepts such as truth and myth, history and fantasy.

In the exhibition, GEOGRAPHIES, Maryam Jafri investigates our cultural identity and the cultural divide across space and time.

re.act.feminism #2 - A Performing Archive

RE.ACT.FEMINISM #2 – A PERFORMING ARCHIVE is a growing, temporary and living performance archive travelling through Europe from 2011 to 2013. It presents feminist, gender-critical and queer performance art from a vast number of artists from the beginning of the 1960s and up untill today.

Bringing together works from Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, the US and Latin America, the project offers artistic views across time and geography, aiming to strengthen cross-generational and trans-cultural dialogue. En route through Europe this temporary archive will expand continuously through local research and the collaboration with art academies, universities, exhibitions, workshops, performances, and talks.

Let Us Speak Now Re/Vision

The Let Us Speak Now Re/Vision archive project is an ongoing collaboration bet-ween Danish artists, Kirsten Dufour and Ninna Poulsen, Swedish artist, Cecilia Wendt, and Det 4. Kontor (Bonnie Fortune and Sophia Seitz-Rasmussen).
The project presents 15 new interviews with artists and cultural workers working in the Scandinavian context. Interviewees include: Rikke Andreasen, Uzma Ahmed Andresen, Mary Coble, Kajsa Dahlberg, Mathias Danbolt, Nynne Haugaard, Susan Hinnum, Jeuno JE Kim, Vibeke Mejlvang og Sofie Hesseholdt, Lisa Nyberg, Jane Rowley, Lise Skou, Gritt Uldall-Jessen, Louise Wolthers, and Pia Rönicke.
In their interviews, these ar-tists and cultural workers discuss issues ranging from intersectionality to integration; boredom as a source of political inspiration to politics as a source for creative inspiration; critical curation to critical media; and queer feminism to queering the archive.

Project Background
In 2002, Dufour, a pioneer in the feminist art movement, began the Let Us Speak Now video archive on feminism, activism, and art production with Swedish artist, Andrea Cruetz.
The original project recorded interviews with artists from the USA, France, Armenia, Great Britain, Austria, South America, India, and elsewhere about their art practices and their opinions on feminism in contemporary cultural work. The project began in Los Angeles and has collected over 100 interviews with celebrated feminist artists and cultural workers, such as Faith Wilding, Mary Kelly, Julie Ault, Mary Beth Edelson, and Martha Rosler.
Though Dufour's project has collected so many interviews, there have been few with artists and cultural workers working local-ly. The Let Us Speak Now Re/Vision archive project seeks to add to the archive and update the discussion, by presenting the present feminist debate in the Nordic context.
