Accidents. His keen lens with surgical precision captures the essences, which seem elusive - brittle spark in the depths of a jewel, a capillary net of the dry leaf, warm, almost tangible play of fabric in the folds of the lampshade...
Evgeniy Nesterov was born in Moscow in 1957. In early 80’s he emigrated to the United States, where he undertook graduate studies at the University of California in Los Angeles; studied theory and practice of photography in the renown School of Photography F/64 in California. Founded in early 30’s of the last century, School F/64 formed and actively promoted “sharp-focus” approach to the subject, concentrating on the most precise, detailed images. Since 1986 Nesterov works professionally in design and photography. Since 1992 his works has exhibited at personal and group exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York, Mexico City, Budapest, Geneva and Moscow. Nesterov collaborates with various galleries and representatives across the world.
Since 1997 Evgeniy Nesterov works in Russia. His personal shows in Yakut Gallery and The Geneva Palace of the United Nations and works, that are repeatedly exhibited in the bounds of Moscow Photo-Biennale, traditionally attracts the attention of critics and professional community. Personal show “Stone Gardens” at the International Annual Jewelry Fair in Basel opened the new facets of the artist’s work.
Evgeniy Nesterov’s works are in collections of State photographic archives (Mexico City), the Budapest Contemporary Art Collection, the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, the Museum of Moscow’s History, the Moscow House of photography, the National Gallery of Australia (Melbourne), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Reykjavik, Island), Warner Bros. Records, ABN-AMRO Bank, Coca-Cola (corporate collections), Hormel (family estate) and in numerous private collections.
The exhibition “Accidents” once more confirms the reputation of Evgeniy Nesterov as “the most mysterious photographer of Moscow”. His keen lens with surgical precision captures the essences, which seem elusive — brittle spark in the depths of a jewel, a capillary net of the dry leaf, warm, almost tangible play of fabric in the folds of the lampshade... Nesterov’s works — are always a contrast between the deliberately limited space and full visual harmony. One can only wonder the special vision of the artist, able to see in something random an absolutely well-thought mosaic of light, textures and silhouettes.
