'Einbahnstrasse' is not a translation in images of his written work, but it is representative of the auroral depth that permeates and embraces the mental vis of these images.
The title of this exhibition is borrowed from Walter Benjamin's Einbahnstrasse, a work composed of philosophical fragments, which was published in 1928 in Berlin. This exhibition pays homage to this grand constructor of allegory and archaeologist of the modern psyche through his Denkbilder (image-thought). It is not a translation in images of his written work, but it is representative of the auroral depth that permeates and embraces the mental vis of these images. In this sense, the background entwines itself with Michelangelo's Aurora (found in the New Sacristy in San Lorenzo in Florence), that emblem of light which escapesthe darkness, and with ameritudine, pain mediated by a melancholy temperament. Specifically, the exhibition consists of fourteen photographs and of several paintings, belonging to the Noir series, realized by Finelli in the last three years. In this way, he works towards further deepening the fiction of the Noir, as defined in theso-called Film Noir of the forties and first half of the fifties in the United States. In particular, the reflections brought forward by Finelli regard the idea of vision as developed during Film Noir and the importance this has assumed in his artwork. This Film Noir that, in the words of Paul Schrader, contradicts a culture of American cinematography based on theme, that tries to make America accept a moral vision of life based on style.
