lyonswiergallery is pleased to announce the artist's reception for
Judith Raphael on Thursday, May 8, 2003.
Many of Raphael's playful luminous images of adolescent girls refer
to women from ancient mythology. Their stances are often copied from
Greco-Roman male sculptures and sometimes from extreme sports magazines.
This enables the artist to speculate about an insouciant and aggressive
aspect of female nature and muse about the contradictions of that
identity in contemporary culture.
