Janne Raisanen

In his recent production, Janne Räisänen has been focusing on the relationship between paintings and drawings, aiming to exceed the boundaries between the different techniques.

Confidently shifting from paper to canvas the artist explores possible intersections and correspondences between the two media, trying to reach immediacy and synthesis. Janne Räisänen is renowned for his expressionist approach. His sources of inspiration are very diverse: in a playful and wild incursion into contemporary imagery, mixing up low and high culture, Räisänen’s references can be found in music, movies, literature, club and street culture and football. A high sense of grotesque and humour is characteristic for his works.

Janne Räisänen (born 1971 in Pudasjärvi, Finland) lives and works in Berlin. He studied at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki and at the Städelschule in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. He had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, Berlin, Helsinki and Paris and has participated in numerous international group exhibitions, including the Carnegie Art Award in 1999 and 2001, the Beijing Biennale 2005 and the Berlin Biennale in 2010. Among his upcoming projects is a solo exhibition at Galerie Anhava, Helsinki.

Also on view will be selected works from the private collection of Iiris and Timo Miettinen.
