With 'Between the Cloud and the Clock', Boris Oicherman wants to create an event that would act as a facilitator of a social space. 'Hoy Juega Chile' by Jorge Catoni was shot at an open market in Santiago during the Soccer World Cup 2010. Rieko Koga features his new work 'Future Diary - Here we are'.

Between the Cloud and the Clock
Between the Cloud and the Clock:
The greater part of my practice is dedicated to creating art in response to some particular conditions in a chosen environment. As a consequence I hardly work in the studio. My approach to an artwork is open: as the conditions in every environment are unique, I do not limit myself to any set of means; they are always the outcome of a research I conduct locally. In the past I worked with water, fire, electric fans, computer programming, electronic imaging, wind and others. The media, however, are always the same: perception and experience.
The work, Between the Cloud and the Clock, originated in research for a site-specific installation for a library in Ticho House in Jerusalem, Israel. The aim was to create an event from the very being in the reading room; an event that would also act as a facilitator of a social space – perhaps similarly to the way a campfire functions. The solution was to place a floor-based electric fan, oriented upwards, and to hang an incandescent bulb above it. The bulb constantly revolved around the fan, set in motion by the airflow, creating a continuous monotonous movement of light and shadows in the space. -Boris Oicherman

Hoy Juega Chile
Hoy Juega Chile:
Hoy Juega Chile was shot at “La Vega Central,” an open market in Santiago, Chile, during the Soccer World Cup 2010 (Chile v/s Spain game), and almost all the people were watching TV…
About his work and practice, Catoni states, “What is seen and heard is not what it seems nor does it pretend to be. Within the precarious and the technological, in the chaos and the calm, in the scarce and the abundant, the positive and the negative, in infancy and maturity, that is how I pass.” (Juxtapoz/Emerging Artist/June 2008)

FUTURE DIARY / HERE WE ARE
FUTURE DIARY / HERE WE ARE
One day I said to myself
"What do I want to read now?"
"What do I want to write now??"
My answer was "My Future Diary."
This artwork started here.
"What words will you say?" It depends on the person,
If the future means 10 years later for some or the future means from now for others. This question is very simple and abstract but we can imagine many things from it.
"When?" "Which situation?"
"Where?" "Which language?"
ーThere are 39 questions about your future in the diaryー
We don't know what we will do in the future and we don’t know what we will say in the next minute, either. But if we can, I hope we will try to think about good things for the future and speak gentle words to each other.
The power of words and thoughts is very strong. It might have some energy to change the world. Even though each word and thought is small. [We don't see them… but …] When they get together, they become powerful.
If you are sad now or if you can't advance because you are afraid, please remember this artwork.
This is your future diary.
If your diary runs short of space, you can patch another cloth to it and make it longer. If you want to change your thoughts, you can take it apart whenever you want! We can't change the past, but we can make our futures as we like! Our futures have limitless possibilities and spread vastly in front of us ... like a plain white cloth!
I hope to share a lot of happiness through my artwork to you who look at and touch it. I create for someone who is waiting for my artwork, someone I know, someone I will know ...
I sew my wishes and my prayers into the cloth with each stitch.
That's why I create ... and why I am here ... now!
