Peres projects is pleased to announce the inauguration of our new Los
Angeles gallery with the first solo exhibition by Canadian, NY based
artist asianpunkboy (“APBâ€).
APB is best know for his self-titled magazine which in his own words is
"filled with an infusion of gentle surfaces, dissident eruptions, haikus,
mapped pictures, dirty illustrations, moist cum, decadent artificial
words, love and all manners of faggy filth". APB’s work is entrenched in
self-exploration through a process that is directed by his personal
sensitivity; his are statements that speak of fragility embodied by an
aesthetic equilibrium between frail beauty and virtual banal kitsch. Part
thief, part provocateur, APB is an originator of new ideas that invite us
to come along in a journey into a super exclusive all boys club. His
installation at peres projects will consist of 21 stolen images on
lavender paper, flour (lots of flour), live birds along with an untitled
series of sculptures of a cannon, a white neon light text sculpture, a
white silk flag, an engraved mirror, an owl with bombastic diamond eyes,
shattered glasses, a rhinestone encrusted switchblade, many bullets and
...well, more...
Asianpunkboy’s work has been featured in numerous magazines and books
around the world such as Vice, Sleazenation, V, Empire, Dazed & Confused,
Inside Magazines and Oyster. APB was recently listed in AA Bronson's Top
10 in the September 2002 edition of Art Forum while Dazed & Confused named
his publication as one of the top ten coolest mags coming out of New York.
This summer, APB’s work will also be featured as part of a group
exhibition which includes Slava Mogutin and Bruce LaBruce at The Garfield
Gallery in Pittsburgh.
