Making Familiar - Artists: Peter Burns (IRL), Diana Copperwhite (IRL), Paul Doran (IRL), Damien Flood (IRL), Andreas Golder (RU), Eithne Jordan (IRL), Mark Joyce (IRL), Kevin Mooney (IRL), Daniel Pitin (CZ), Mary Ramsden (UK),
Making Familiar takes as its premise the story of American artist David Reed and his idol Philip Guston escaping the Studio School to go to see the Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western 'For a Few Dollars More'. This desire of 'escaping' the studio to do something that is 'familiar' to everyone, sets the stage for a series of paired conversations between painters and their work that registers the familiar 'stuff' that informs their work.
Making Familiar will feature the work of twelve artists, each week pairing two painters and their works in the gallery. The exhibition will rotate weekly over six weeks. On each of the six changeover days a conversation will take place between each pair of artists. After the first and subsequent weeks, one wall in the gallery will be made into a ‘salon wall’, where a selection of works from each succeeding week will accumulate for the duration of exhibition.
