Photos by a group of female photographers from the Middle East
The photography collective Rawiya was founded in 2009 by a group of female photographers from the Middle East. The word Rawiya means 'she who tells a story' in Arabic. Rawiya reflects on social and political issues from an individual point of view and challenge our stereotypes. Its members' images tell stories about human experiences in a region in flux and portray, for instance, the many consequences of war. They pay particular attention to women's experiences of everyday life in the Middle East.
