SH Contemporary is now approaching its 6th edition.

It will take place in the stunning Shanghai Exhibition Center from 7-9 September, with preview on the 6th.

In the past twelve months we worked to further establish our fair as the platform to witness in real time the most important contemporary art from China and the Asia-Pacific. A setting to see things first, enjoying a privileged view of the latest developments in the region’s creativity. To achieve this goal, under the direction of Massimo Torrigiani, we organized an art fair with the right balance between Asian and non-Asian exhibitors, presenting international art of the highest quality with galleries from China, the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, and from Europe and the U.S. 50% of the galleries are from China, 25% from the Asia-Pacific region, 25% from Europe, the Middle East and the U.S. Along this extraordinary show, we organized an extensive program of curated projects, conferences and side events.

The Art Show features 100 selected exhibitors, from 18 countries, including top galleries, sectors for young galleries and galleries specialized in photography and prints, private collections and institutions.

SH Contemporary Projects - organized by Arthub Asia’s network of curators in collaboration with the participating galleries - highlights the work of leading Chinese and international talents into different sections:

 NOW INK is an ongoing exhibition focusing on new ink painting and calligraphy-related multimedia works. Now Ink was initiated in 2011, with last edition of the fair.

 HOT SPOTS is dedicated to large scale and site specific projects, and on-site performances, by renowned artists, including new monumental works by contemporary Indian artists - Aaditi Joshi and Shilpa Gupta, commissioned with The Creative India Foundation. The choice of artists involved in SH Contemporary 2012 - primarily drawn from the galleries participating with a booth at the fair - and of the curators invited to contribute to the special projects was developed through the personal invitation of ArtHub Asia directors (Davide Quadrio, Defne Ayas, Qiu Zhijie) in partnership with Massimo Torrigiani, the director of the fair, whose determined vision was the guiding force.

Moreover, SH Contemporary 2012 will feature an extensive cycle of panel discussions and talks:

 CONVERSATIONS is a cycle of conferences addressing the region’s art markets.

 PILLOW TALKS is a series of intimate conversations among artists, critics, curators, gallerists, and collectors friends. Speakers: Don and Mera Rubell (collectors), Pearl Lam (gallerist and patron), Qiu Zhijie (artist, curator, co-director of Arthub Asia and director of the Shanghai Biennale 2012), Defne Ayas (director of Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam and co-director of Arthub Asia), Davide Quadrio (co-director of Arthub Asia), Philip Tinari (director, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art), and Massimo Torrigiani.

 Premiered during SH Contemporary 2011 to help bridging the activities of galleries and private collections, the PRIVATE MUSEUM ALLIANCE - co-hosted by Le Royal Méridien Shanghai - will bring for the second time to the fair a consortium of 28 institutions based in Mainland China.

 The first edition of THE ASIAN ART CURATORS MEETING - co-organized with Le Royal Méridien - will focus on the way non-Asian museums collect, display and engage with contemporary Asian artists and art.
