European Exhibition Photo Award: European Identities. The main objective behind Epea is to present the broad range of different approaches by talented young European photographers on issues such as the life of objects, urban landscape, immigration and borders, intimacy, communities, among other subjects that aim to foster inner-European dialogue.

From September 11th through November 18th the Délégation en France of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation will present the work of 12 young European photographers on the theme of European identities. The photographers are selected participants from the first European Photo Exhibition Award (epea), a project jointly organized by Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca, Fondation Calouste Gulbenkian, Fritt Ord and Körber-Stiftung. This European initiative took as its starting point the "Körber Photo Award," founded back in 1999. The main objective behind epea is to present the broad range of different approaches by talented young European photographers on issues such as the life of objects, urban landscape, immigration and borders, intimacy, communities, among other subjects that aim to foster inner-European dialogue.
The European Photo Exhibition Award 01: European Identities exhibition in Paris is the second stop of its European tour after its opening at the House of Photography/ Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. After Paris the exhibition will travel to Lucca and Oslo.
The exhibition features photographic essays by Catarina Botelho, José Pedro Cortes, Gabriele Croppi, João Grama, Monica Larsen, Frederic Lezmi, Pietro Masturzo, Hannah Modigh, Davide Monteleone, Linn Schröder, Marie Sjøvold and Isabelle Wenzel. The 12 photographers were selected by Norwegian photographer Rune Eraker, Portuguese sociologist and curator Sérgio Mah, the artistic director of the Italian Lucca Photo Fest, Enrico Stefanelli, and Ingo Taubhorn, curator at the House of Photography at Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. The four curators accompanied the photographers during the production of the essays and jointly discussed the works with them at workshops. On the occasion of the exhibition an illustrated catalogue will be published in the Photo-Art series at Kerber Verlag, Bielefeld/Berlin.
