Il villaggio di Nošovice si trova in Repubblica Ceca a sette chilometri da Frýdek-Místek e ha una popolazione di circa 960 abitanti. Il villaggio in se stesso non è particolarmente pittoresco: le case sono disposte lungo una strada dritta, ma nell'area circostante, montagne e foreste crescono rigogliose. Ed è proprio in questo contesto agreste che è stata costruita nel 2003 una enorme fabbrica della Hyundai. L'indifferenza e l'inabilità degli abitanti locali di protestare contro lʼerezione di questo edificio ha portato ad un declino sociale del villaggio. Molte persone decisero di trasferirsi in un altro luogo e quelle che rimasero a Nošovice non parlarono mai più dell'accaduto.

La fabbrica fu costruita proprio nel centro di un grande campo e provocò la divisione del villaggio in due parti per cui le originali vie di collegamento diventarono dei vicoli ciechi. Un alto muro fu eretto intorno alla pianta, con lo scopo di schermare alla vista la zona industriale. Se si voleva visitare un vicino che si sarebbe raggiunto a piedi in dieci minuti, dopo la costruzione della fabbrica ci si metteva un'ora di viaggio. Le persone del luogo si trovarono quindi in cerchio. Cerchio che divenne il nuovo modello del luogo, ma anche principale ostacolo per la mobilità.

Nel 2009, lʼartista Kateřina Šedá ha quindi deciso di reagire per cercare un modo per “collegare” gli abitanti attraverso il nuovo modello circolare e quindi cercare una via di uscita dal cerchio. Il suo obiettivo era anche quello di contrastare l'indifferenza distruttiva del luogo promettendo a se stessa di iniziare a cercare possibili soluzioni solo dopo che la fabbrica della Hyundai avesse chiuso definitivamente le sue porte in quel sito e creando quindi, un nuovo stabilimento che avesse il compito di sopprimere questa indifferenza.

Il primo step di questo progetto è iniziato nel 2010 e da allora, ad ognuna delle fasi del lavoro Kateřina Šedá ha dato il titolo che costituisce unʼalternativa alla traduzione ceca “NEDÁ SE SVÍTIT”.

The village of Nošovice is located in the Czech Republic 7 kilometres from the town of Frýdek-Místek and has a population of around 960. The village itself is not particularly picturesque: the houses line a simple road – but fields, mountains and forest spread out in the surrounding area. And in these beautiful fields an enormous Hyundai car manufacturing plant sprung up in recent years.

The indifference and inability of the locals to protest against the construction resulted in the social decline of the village after the development; many people moved away and many of those who stayed do not speak to each other to this day. The factory standing in the middle of a field definitively divided the village in two and the original connecting paths were transformed into blind alleys. A huge wall was erected around the plant, which was intended to screen the industrial zone from view. If you want to visit a neighbour whom you could have reached a few years on foot in ten minutes, today you would have to set aside at least an hour for the trip.

The locals thus found themselves in the circle – the new pattern of the place became their main obstacle. I therefore decided in 2009 to try and find a way of connecting the inhabitants via the new pattern and thereby find a way out of the circle. I also wanted to react to the destructive indifference of the location in question and I therefore promised myself that I would start seeking possible solutions only after the Hyundai car factory on this site had closed its gates for good. In effect I would create a new factory of a sort, which, however, would have the task of suppressing this indifference.

The individual steps began in 2010 and each of them is given a title consisting of an alternative translation of the Czech idiom “NEDÁ SE SVÍTIT”.
