This exhibition will survey Ruscha's paintings, drawings, and books from 1960 to the present. One of the most consistently inventive artists of the contemporary period, Ruscha has been a pioneer in the use of language and imagery drawn from the popular media.
Co-organized by Kerry Brougher, director, Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, and Neal Benezra, assistant director for art and public programs, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, this exhibition will survey Ruscha's paintings, drawings, and books from 1960 to the present.
One of the most consistently inventive artists of the contemporary period, Ruscha has been a pioneer in the use of language and imagery drawn from the popular media. The show will consist of approximately sixty paintings, twenty-five drawings, and several books.
