Combining the vocabulary of modernist sculpture with a pop culture vernacular Webb creates his own language of abstraction. Plexi-glass, perspex, timber, marble, plastics, neon and paper are just a sampling of the materials which he gathers together to fabricate his composite constructions. Abstract units are customised and accessorized, and in some instances music and voices emanate from within.
Holloway's rigorous formal experimentation and constant play on allusions and materials offer a humourous exploration of the question of perception and representation. In 'A White Hunter' Holloway brings together sculptural elements with his first video installation. The looped DVD features close-up footage of Michael Douglas driving. Compiled from such movies as Wall Street, Fatal Attraction and Don't Say a Word, the scenes trace the stars expression as it alters from anxious to frustrated. Whatever the backdrop, Douglas always appears to be struggling to contain a rage seething beneath the surface of his civilised veneer.
