The Museum of the Colonial Post Colonial comprises digital photographic works that present multiple readings of the politics of representation and cultural difference.
Exhibitions of this work in Australia have been in the form of simulated History Museum installations, complete with explanatory wall texts, These fictional 'archives' of historical and ethnographic photographs not only suggest alternatives to both post-colonial Australian and European histories, but also offer considerations of the construction of 'history'.
This illusory 'New Museum' intends to act as 'cultural activism and dissidence' - not only recognizing the contribution of marginal cultures in Australian history and highlighting the deceptive use of photography by a majority culture, but also suggesting the irrevocable digital corrosion of the veracity of the photograph as historical document.

About the Artist:
Alan Cruickshank has worked for over 20 years as artist, curator, writer, publisher and public art project co-ordinator, based in Adelaide, Australia. Currently, he is the Director of the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia, Adelaide, and is the designer/editor of its Australia-wide distributed arts and cultural magazine Broadsheet. As an artist, he has exhibited his works in major museums in Australia - the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; the Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane as well as the Australian Centre for Photography in Sydney.
