A group exhibition of paintings, drawings, and photographs of suburban imagery and iconography. From Fairfield Porter and David Hockney to Mark Tansey and Martin Mull, the burbs will include the work of over 40 artists who have turned their attention to the American suburban experience.
DFN Gallery is pleased to present the burbs, a group exhibition of paintings, drawings, and photographs of suburban imagery and iconography. From Fairfield Porter and David Hockney to Mark Tansey and Martin Mull, the burbs will include the work of over 40 artists who have turned their attention to the American suburban experience.
In this exhibition, the burbs are depicted and dissected from different vantage points to produce idyllic, comic, dead-pan, and ironic observations of an environment that has arguably formed and influenced more post-World War II American artists than any other place. While many of these artists have left the comfort and homogeneity of their suburban youth in search of the energy and diversity of the big city, the burbs continue to inspire and inform their work.
the burbs, curated by Rick Davidman, Peter Drake, and John Nickle, features the work of:
