The Record of the Time
New York artist Laurie Anderson is seen as an icon of multi-media performance art. Her work is characterised by combinations of theatre, pop music, performance and fine arts, which she links together to cross-genre works of art by means of computer technology and new media.
The retrospective ''The Record of the Time'' primarily presents Laurie Anderson's work with sound and includes several main themes:
the violin, the voice, words, sonic spaces and alter egos. Laurie Anderson, who sees herself as a ''story teller'', creates room installations with elements of poetry and song, sound collages and music based on stories from her life, dreams, poems or mythical stories. The works exhibited at museum kunst palast illustrate the stages of her artistic work from the 70s to the latest groups of works of the 90s.
Cinematic work and audio installations are staged, using the respective technology, and offer visitors an audio-visual experience of Laurie Anderson's work.
The retrospective ''The Record of the Time'' was conceived by museum kunst palast jointly with the Musée d'Art Contemporain Lyon. The exhibition will be accompanied by a photographic documentation of Laurie Anderson's most important performances. A catalogue including a CD is being published.
