comunicato stampa

Contexts presents eight artistic interventions in organisations in Spain, France and Sweden: a fruit and vegetable shop, a company specializing in silicone transformation, a hospital, a school and a retirement home.

Three producers of artistic interventions within the projet Creative Clash made these experiences possible : Conexiones Improbables in Basque Country, 3CA in Ile-de-France and TILLT in Västra Göteland. With the support and guidance of these intermediaries, artists addressed a question that the host organizations were grappling with.
This kind of initiative is growing in many countries today. Organizations of all sizes and in all sectors are inviting artists to work on issues and interact with employees for a few hours, days, months or even years. The objective of these interactions is not specifically the creation of a work of art, although works do emerge in and from the process. The driving force for the organizations is the search for ideas, for fresh perspectives, new practices, and the creation of social relations. For their part, the artists are motivated by curiosity, a desire to explore beyond the established frameworks and to work with a cultural context that is foreign to them.

The intention of the Contexts exhibition is to present a selection of such initiatives and to explore their possible implications. How can an experience led by an artist help an organization to see its way of doing things in a different way? What value does artistic research add? Can these kinds of initiatives offer artists a complementary economic model and mode of production?
