Recent Acquisitions in Prints

Over the past decade, the Whitney's print collection has grown significantly in its representation of the vitality of the graphic arts in twentieth-century America. "In Depth" focuses on the responses of four abstract artists - Burgoyne Diller, Louise Nevelson, Donald Judd, and Richard Tuttle - to the expressive potentials of printmaking. Each one, in different ways, turned to the print medium as a vehicle for personal artistic exploration. The exhibition also marks the first museum showing of Richard Tuttle's new sequence of three etching cycles: The Edge (1998), Edges (1999), and a cycle to be completed this year.
