hammer sidi is pleased to present an international exhibition including artists from the UK, US, Europe and Scandinavia, showing works on paper, animated drawing, video and sculpture, their common primary concern being drawing.
Sally Barker's (UK) 'pylon sculptures' are drawn and put together with glue using a glue gun. Unlike their real counterparts which are regimented, strong and predictable, these pylons are twisted and bent and emasculated in form.
Anna Barriball (UK) shows a work entitled 'Bag Drawing'. Rather than illustrative or narrative in nature, Anna Barriball's works are direct layers of information, regularly applied directly over each other in the same physical space...Simon Morrissey
Joe Biel (US) has made a series of drawings especially for this exhibition.
Joe Biel's delicate, predominantly linear, monochromatic drawings read like a primer for truly bizarre interpretations of Freudian psychoanalysis...Jaqueline Cooper
Carin Ellberg (Sweden) uses everyday objects as both material and subject.
Here she shows three drawings in which she uses coffee as the background for the setting of the figures.
Max Goldfarb (US) shows video drawings from the series 'manufacturer territories' in which he videos himself from above using road markings to draw directly onto the street.
Johanna Karlsson (Sweden) works with sculpture and drawing in which the size and relationship to the exhibition space is of great importance. The work in this exhibition is one of a series of ambiguous sculptures of seemingly natural landscapes yet obviously artificial.
Maria Lindberg's (Sweden) unusually canny drawings transform an everyday normality into the endearing, ridiculous, absurd or downright funny.
Euan Macdonald's (US) idiosyncratic drawings take the form of fragmented storyboards which leave the complete narrative up to the viewer's imagination.
In Andrew McDonald's (UK) animated drawing: 'John's Country', the figure has no head; without a head he has no moral concerns, he can do what he likes and he is free. He is also absurd.
Anne-Marie Schneider (France) shows a series of drawings from her recent solo exhibition at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris.

The second part of Not Always The Same will open at Mjellby Art Centre, Halmstad Sweden on the 7th September and will also include the following artists: Lars Arrhenius, Edwina Ashton, Helen Billgren, Maria Borgström, Louise Bourgeois, Ann Böttcher, Cecilia Darle, Maria Finn, William Kentridge and Jockum Nordström.
