What happens when artists are asked to play? Gallery director, curator, artist and humorist Mark Nielsen, aka Uncle Art, invited photographer Cynthia Greig, sculptor Krista Hoefle, painter Jason Lahr, media artist Leslie Raymond and other artists to interpret the theme of play for this summer's exhibition.

Respectively, their art plays with interactive participation, perceptual changes in context and scale, and issues of feminine and masculine identity using everything from television, comics and miniature toys to cosmetics cotton balls, and temporary tattoos as their material. The Playground Show invites the gallery visitor to consider the grounding potential of humor and the relief of just letting go.

Established in 1995 as a part of the Warren Robbins Graduate Center at the University of Michigan, the Robbins gallery offers innovative and experimental exhibition and curatorial programs designed for and by Art & Design MFA candidates.
