ProjectB è felice di presentare GLASS TO THE WALL la prima mostra personale di Caroline Walker in Italia, curata da Jane Neal in collaborazione con ProjectB. In mostra dieci tele, di cui tre di grandi dimensioni e alcuni bozzetti della giovane pittrice Scozzese che vive e lavora a Londra. La mostra è presentata nell’ambito dell’osservatorio della galleria a supporto di giovani artisti e curatori; un impegno che si rende concreto, ogni nuovo anno a gennaio/ febbraio, con una mostra in galleria.

GLASS TO THE WALL

Il lavoro di Caroline Walker discende da quella storia dell’arte, del rapporto tra modello e artista, pittore e nudo ma riportati in una scenografia contemporanea. Il titolo evoca l’uso malizioso dello specchio che riflette immagini distorte dell’armonia domestica e spia di là di ciò che possiamo vedere.

Pennellate materiche che dipingono superfici, e, attraverso riflessi e distorsioni, insinuano di là dall’atmosfera gioiosa, tensioni sessuali o tratti violenti. Opere che attraggono con forza lo sguardo dell’osservatore per l’uso del colore e la dinamica della composizione. Incuriosiscono e seducono raccontando i comportamenti segreti delle donne; punto di partenza della ricerca dell’artista sullo spazio psicologico di ciò che definiamo ‘casa’.

BIOGRAFIA:
Caroline Walker è nata in Scozia nel 1982, oggi vive e lavora a Londra, UK. Ha studiato al Royal College of Art di Londra e alla Glasgow School of Art. Tra le sue mostre personali recenti: Vantage Point, Ana Cristea Gallery, New York 2011 e Anonymous was a Woman, Ivan Gallery, Bucharest 2010.
Suoi lavori sono già parte della Saatchi Collection e The Frank-Suss collection a Londra.

ProjectB is pleased to present GLASS TO THE WALL, Caroline Walker’s first private exhibition in Italy sponsored by Jane Neal in collaboration with ProjectB. There are ten canvasses on show, three of which are large works, as well as a number of sketches done by the young Scottish painter who now lives and works in London. The exhibition is part of the gallery’s ongoing commitment to promoting young artists and curators, an undertaking that comes to life in an annual gallery exhibition held in January/February of each year. GLASS TO THE WALL Caroline Walker’s work descends from that art background, from the relationship between the artist and the model, the painter and the nude, but cast in a contemporary setting. The name given to the exhibition hints at a mischievous use of the mirror, which reflects distorted images of domestic harmony and looks beyond what we can see. ‘Glass is a material that is so flat and hard that nothing can cling to its surface...above all it is the enemy of secrets. It is the enemy of possession’.

Walter Benjamin Masterful brushstrokes that depict surfaces and, via reflections and distortions, hint at the sexual tensions and violent traits that lie beyond the joyful atmosphere. Works that forcefully catch the viewer’s eye through the use of colour and the dynamics of the composition. The works inspire curiosity and entice the viewer, telling of the secret behaviours of women; the starting point of the artist’s exploration of the psychological space that we classify as the ‘home’.
