comunicato stampa

Starting next Wednesday 13th February a huge amount of appointments, events, openings and parties will happen no stop. All of them are related with the celebration of ARCOmadrid 2013, the international contemporary art fair.

Here Together Now is directly related to the fair because it belongs to the FOCUS section, which is devoted each year to a country in order to delve into the art scene of the selected one. This is not limited to the invitation of a number of galleries from the country but also there are proposed different thematic cycles, exhibitions and parallel projects around it in different cultural centres in Madrid.

This year the guest country is Turkey and Matadero proposes among other things, the project Here Together Now, which seeks to build an artistic community, and at the same time strengthen ties between artists and local agents of Madrid and Istanbul. Iz Öztat, Dilek Winchester and Sibel Horada are the Istanbul based artists invited by Matadero. They have been coexisting with the other members of the community during the whole month of January.

The space has been enabled for the residence and production by HUSOS platform with their Do It Together spatial project at the warehouse 16.1. Now this space has been transformed in an exhibition area that will host five individual art projects produced over the last few weeks. The works have been arranged in space in tune between them considering the narrative lines they all hold. These projects are formalized in very different ways (installations, drawings, films, sound work, diagrams, textual works, photography) but there is coherence within the selection based in their commonalities as a strong research base, the process and participatory element.

The program of Matadero during ARCOmadrid 2013 opens this Wednesday 13th, from eleven in the morning, with a preview of our project although its official opening takes place on Thursday 14th, at 19 h., at the same time that Campo Adentro, a extension project of the same name that seeks to establish a new cultural strategy on relations between town and country and new contexts and functions within contemporary art.

During AfterARCO you may also see the ongoing exhibitions Archaeological and Candela in Matadero. Cineteca Madrid, from 9th to 17th February a full Turkish documentary film series will be projected. This whole cycle brings the most outstanding productions of this gender made in this country during the last ten years.

Next Friday, February 15th, starting at 20 hours, Matadero's warehouse 16 becomes the main focus of ARCOMadrid 2013 for both professionals and general public, with AfterARCO programme. In it, the Turkish artist Can Altay present the work developed within the project Carrícola at Campo Adentro (Valencia), to participate in a discussion after the neighbours of the town, along with Charles Esche (Director of Van Abbe Museum), Vasif Kortum (SALT Istanbul) and Laura Raicovich (Creative Time NY). Later there will be a tasting dinner with Valencian garden products, local wines and beer chufa, and musical session by Abraham Rivera, with a selection of rural music of the last hundred years from the five continents.

On Saturday 16th at 12pm are scheduled a series of educational activities designed between the Istanbul based artists and Invisible Pedagogies team within HTN community. These actions are addressed to different audiences; they will work on issues related to the development of artistic projects. Information will be expanded throughout the week.
