The Los Angeles-based artist will discuss the photographs of the Bechers
Dia's Artists on Artists Lecture Series will host the Los Angeles-based artist Shannon Ebner, who will discuss the photographs of Bernd and Hilla Becher. "Artists on Artists Lecture Series, Readings in Contemporary Poetry, Conversations and Lectures" presents a variety of perspectives that address specific works or methods. Established in 2001, the series invites artists to respond to an artist in Dia's collection or programs. Ebner is most frequently identified with photography-based works that mine the meaning and form of language. Vernacular industrialized architecture has been the sole subject of Bernd and Hilla Becher's work for some 40 years. Their vast photographic inventory now ranges geographically from western Europe through North America and taxonomically across an enormous array of heterogeneous building types, many verging on obsolescence - mine shafts, lime kilns, silos, cooling towers, blast furnaces, tipples, gasometers - all classified by reference to function.
