Conversation with Josee Drouin-Brisebois and Shary Boyle
On the occasion of the 55th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia the Embassy of Canada in Berlin and the National Gallery of Canada invite you to an in conversation ahead of Shary Boyle's forthcoming solo exhibition for the Canada Pavilion, 55th Biennale di Venezia 2013. One of Canada's most original artists, Shary Boyle will create an immersive installation featuring all new works for her solo presentation, which will be unveiled in the Canada Pavilion at the 55th Biennale di Venezia in May 2013. Known for her bold use of fantasy fictions to explore human psychological and emotional states, Boyle's work is fuelled by concerns about class and gender injustice and embraces hybridity in all its forms. Dissolving boundaries between human and animal, life and death, male and female, her ideas transgress a range of media including performance, sculpture, film, and installation. Trademark to her practice is a devotion to singular, hand-made craft. From sculpture to projection Boyle translates her personal vision of sexuality, relationships, and human vulnerability through a poetic, feminist and humane lens. Boyle has been innovating live-overhead projection performances since 1999, sharing the stage with musicians such as Christine Fellows, Doug Paisley, Jens Lekman, Feist, and Peaches. Shary Boyle will be in conversation with Josee Drouin-Brisebois, two times Canada Pavilion Curator and Senior Curator Contemporary Art, National Gallery of Canada. Free Admission.
