In the current climate of identification surveillance and war on terrorism Light more Light will run an exhibition, workshops and performances looking at issues of identity and tolerance towards others, to uncover identity as a major force of communication. Key to this concept will be the investigation of identity as a currency for human exchange rather than a barrier. Integral to the project will be the cultural heritage of communities living in London.
The artists: Peter Bond; Elena Cologni; Poulomi Desai, Ju Gosling; Dan Knight; Dilys Rees; Martin Richman; Sophie de Stempel; Tatiana de Stempel; Gavin Turk; Simon Underwood and Andrea Luca Zimmerman will exhibit and/or run workshops, working with the community addressing elements of identity within their practice. The main themes used as a method to explore identity will include: Individuality, narrative, disability, youth culture and globalisation.
The emphasis of the workshops will be to move art away from a private domain, which can be alienating, into a public one, which can be more encompassing. The idea is to involve the community in creative process through participation in the arts.
All art made in the workshops will become part of the exhibition creating a visual dialogue on issues of identity.
