comunicato stampa

For the third Annual Banner Project, The Pavilion Downtown is pleased to present the multi-media artist Ayman Yossri Daydban, in collaboration with Athr Gallery. The 40-meter banner wraps around the building’s façade and is visible from the street and neighboring buildings, promoting public art in its various forms.

Daydban has especially produced a new body of work from his established Subtitle series. The project, entitled Change, aims to visually and intellectually engage the public by replacing commercial advertising with art, creating a resonating dialogue between the artwork and its audience. This project is an exploration of time and transience, revealing the constant metamorphosis and evolution. Our realities are constantly redefined and reassessed, leaving the mature generation straining to adjust to shifting norms, and the younger generation in a state of confusion.

ABOUT AYMAN YOSSRI DAYDBAN

MultI-media artist Ayman Yosssri Daydban was born in 1966 in Palestine with a Jordanian nationality and lives in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His art is both biographical and a commentary on the environment he grew up in; it is in many ways a reflection of his life. His home is full of found objects and very few purchased “necessary” items. His last name Daydban means watchman, a mask that observes the viewer and its surroundings while at the same time remaining detached from them. Ayman started his artistic journey in 1989 and since 2005 he has become a full-time artist, who ventured from oil-on-canvas paintings to photography and installations. Aymans exceptionality has been attributed to his ability to express himself in various formats. He is one of the few artists in Saudi Arabia who managed to survive solely on the income generated from his art.

Public Art Project – Myrna Ayad in conversation with Ayman Yossri Daydban | 18 March 2013, 2:00PM

Canvas Magazine Editor, Myrna Ayad will join Jeddah based artist Ayman Yossri Daydban for an intimate conversation about his latest development from his Subtitle series, Change, exclusively developed for The Pavilion Downtown’s third annual banner project. The public talk will focus on the public art project which examines the rate of change witnessed today, which has no parallel in history. We live in a world where realities are constantly being redefined and reassessed; to adapt is a race where concepts of values, principles and morality keep changing. The conversation will engage the audience in reflecting on the impact of the speed of change internally and externally on the human race.

The discussion session will be followed by the opening preview of the annual banner project.
